I’m a Building Representative!

 Now what do I do?

Building representatives responsibilities are…

  • Go to C.R.E.A. meetings (first Wednesday of the month).

  • Call meetings when needed at the building level. It is recommended (and in the contract) that you utilize the last 15 minutes of a faculty meeting to conduct CREA business meetings. This keeps consistency and interest high.

  • Facilitate monthly liaison meetings. Members choose their grade level representatives that will attend. This can certainly change each month so that all are involved. There is a process that should be followed. I will attach to this form.

  • Sit in on meetings if there is a potential grievance. Although the grievance can be transparent, as a representative, you need to remember that the individuals rights should come first.

  • Contact grievance personnel if there is a potential problem. (Daniel Shockely@cr.k12.de.us)

  • Give input to the Secretary about any corrections needed in the minutes. She will send them out prior to approval at the following month’s meeting. Please do not forward minutes to members until they have been approved by representatives. (barbara.harris@cr.k12.de.us)

  • Assist Membership chair with communication about new hires, transfers, and retirees in your building. (rhonda.bassett@cr.k12.de.us)

  • When you have a new hire, they must be approached within 30 days so that they will be covered by liability insurance. If you have ANY questions, Rhonda will help you out.

  • Put any necessary material into member’s mailboxes.

  • Be involved!

Although this may seem overwhelming, you may not be required to do several of the responsibilities listed. They will be contingent on things that may arise in your own buildings. Contact any officer if you need assistance.
